A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. In 2 classrooms and nap rooms, walls have peeling paint exposing dry wall.

Corrective action. The manager said that maintenance will be scheduled soon.

Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

Observation. Upon discussing the staff schedule in the Group Child Care (under 36 months) program, licensing was informed that in the late afternoon, an educator and assistant staff are present until the end of the day.

Corrective action. The manager said that they will reconfigure the staff schedule.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Immunization status was not obtained for one employee.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon reviewing staff records, there were two certificates that were missing verification.

Observation. Review of 6 staff files observed one staff was missing verification of ECEA certificate on file.

Corrective action. Please ensure that all staff files are complete.
