    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area accessible to children in care; - Mushrooms growing in many areas. Potential for a child to ingest it and get sick. - Two dirty rags. - A sharp end of a screw sticking out of a broken plastic toy house. - The gate is open to the side area. There are many dangerous and hazardous object in this area.

    Corrective action. Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - the fridge temperature was measured at 5 degrees Celsius. Licensing explained that fridge temperature should be between 0-4 degrees Celsius. - A tall metal ladder resting against the outdoor wooden fence. - Hose sprawled in the outdoor area. Potential for a toddler to trip and fall on the cement area and injure themselves.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - The wooden fence, enclosing the outdoor play area, is broken several areas. - Paint chipping on the wall in several areas throughout the facility. - The light switches and walls have stains and grime on them throughout the facility.

    Observation. Licensing observed two fitted sheets on children's sleeping mattresses that have stains on them. Licensing provided education on ensuring that children's bedding are cleaned when soiled.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - Several screw-drivers in an unlocked drawer. - a gap in between two wooden panels on the back area of the outdoor wooden fence. - the wooden gate at one end of the outdoor area is not locked and ajar. This gate is to ensure that children don't go into the side area of the community care facility which has several unsafe items in it.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon arriving at the community care facility, Licensing observed 5 children in care with only one staff. The staff informed Licensing that the other staff had gone upstairs for a minute. The staff contacted the secondary staff who arrived at the program after a few minutes. Licensing provided education on ensuring that the staff to child ratio is maintained at all times.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. Upon a review of the minor incident log book Licensing observed that there have been no entries since 2021. Upon discussion with the Manager Licensing observed that minor incidents or illnesses are not recorded in the minor incident log book. Licensing provided education on the intent of the minor incident log book.

    Corrective action. Ensure that current records are kept for a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - A bottle of hair oil in an unlocked bathroom drawer. The Manager removed the bottle and placed it inside an inaccessible cupboard. - One of the nap rooms where two children sleep in cribs is also being used as storage space while children are sleeping in the room. There are several cars and other toys stored in the room.

    Observation. Licensing observed that there is not sufficient supplies in the on wheels emergency bag to recover from an emergency. Licensing observed that there is only one small water bottle and one small packet of cookies in the on wheels emergency bag. Several food items in the bag were all expired and the expiry date for the water bottle could not be seen. Licensing provided education that there needs to be sufficient items in the emergency bag for 72 hours for all the kids and staff attending the facility. Licensing suggested having a system in place to ensure that the emergency bag supplies are maintained.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that there is an emergency plan in place that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond and recover from any emergency.
