• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. -In one of the Group Child Care (under 36 months) outdoor play spaces there are numerous thorny vines growing on the cement wall. The vines are accessible to the children in care. -The cribs that are used in the Group Child Care (under 36 months) nap rooms have fabric mattresses and therefore cannot be sanitized adequately.

  Corrective action. The Manager stated that the thorny vines would be removed from the playground and the Director confirmed by phone that the facility would replace the mattresses to ensure that adequate sanitizing of the sleep equipment could take place.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. Multiple care plans have not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.

  Corrective action. The Manager stated that all care plans would be reviewed within the next week.

  The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed multiple care plans. Three care plans have not been reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.

  Corrective action. The Manager confirmed that these care plans would be reviewed within one week.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed four staff files. Criminal Record Checks on file are not site specific for two of these staff. Both staff have been employed since the summer.

  Corrective action. The Manager confirmed that site specific CRC's have been applied for.

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. The following were noted: -Grips on logs have not been installed, facility has been working to find the best option which is not to pointy and won't fall off with wear and tear (repeat). -Many areas where there are thorny bushes growing within the walk-way to the playground and some of the blackberry bush on the neighboring property is growing into the Infant Toddler play space and are accessible.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment.

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. -Paint has started to chip on the wall by the nap room within the Infant room. -Area below the window in the multi-age room is frequently used by the children as they sit on it. There are areas on the sill where the paint has started to chip and the drywall has become exposed.

  Corrective action. Please ensure facility is clean and in good repair.

  Observation. The following were noted: -Some areas in the playground where the irrigation pipe is exposed and can act as a tripping hazard. -Some logs had grips glued to them and has now fallen off. -Mushroom is growing in the garden within IT outdoor play space. -Ladder is stored within the walkway to the playground, accessible to the children.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. 5 children's files were reviewed, one child was missing Dr information.

  Corrective action. Please ensure children's files are complete.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. 5 staff files reviewed, one staff was missing proof of verification of their Certificate

  Corrective action. Please ensure proof of verification of Certificates are provided in order to confirm compliance.
