    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. There are toys and equipment that are visibly dirty and mouldy in the outdoor play area.

    Corrective action. The licensee said they will do an outdoor play area clean up.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

    Observation. Character references were not available for review for one staff.

    Corrective action. The licensee said that she will acquire references and keep a record.

    A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.

    Observation. There is a gap in the fence that is larger than 3.5 inches and smaller than 9 inches posing an entrapment hazard. The Manager is going to look at ways to block the gap

    Corrective action. Ensure that the outdoor play area is enclosed in a manner that is free from harm.

    Observation. limited items to recover from an emergency and do not reflect the age and stages of children in care. It was discussed to have 72 hours worth of food and water and toileting supplies for children not yet able to use a toilet.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the materials to recover from an emergency are available.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

    Observation. The follow items were identified as damaged and in need of repair during the inspection; - play pen being used has ripped mesh on the equipment - bathroom stool has significant dirt and debris - walls in the facility show signs of wear and tear with expose dry wall and tape covering damage in areas - salt deicer accessible to the children care stored in the garage where the children enter and exit - fridge that houses the children's lunch kits has sing of dirt and debris - significant clutter in the kitchen counter area - toys stored along one wall and not accessible to the children and several damaged books LO discussed each items with the Licensee during the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure furniture, equipment and supplies are sturdy, safe in construction, clean and free from hazards at all times.

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

    Observation. Medication stored in the facility does not have parental permission with clear instructions on how or when to use the medication. Additionally the Licensee has been not using a medication permission form with very detailed instructions for medication being administered to children in care. Several instances of notes in the facility log book for medication were noted. LO reviewed the practice of medication permission with the Licensee during the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure medication permission forms are used with clear instructions and details and permission related to the medication.
