  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. In the School Age yard there are two types of mushrooms that are growing off the large tree stump and from the ground.

    Corrective action. Please remove the mushrooms right away as their species could not be identified as toxic or not. Please implement a system to ensure that the yards are checked for mushrooms daily.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - The gray vinyl wall tiles, in the Group Child Care (school age) and Preschool rooms, are coming off in some areas and ripped in some areas. - The cubbies have several areas where the paint is chipped.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in care.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING

    The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

    Observation. Upon a review of five children's records, Licensing observed that a child's care plan was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested by the parent. The care plan was to be reviewed in February 2022. Licensing discussed what would meet the intent of this regulation.

    Corrective action. Ensure that care plans are reviewed at last once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

    Observation. Upon a review of five staff records, Licensing observed that one staff's certificate has not been verified through the early childhood educator (ECE) registry.

    Corrective action. Ensure that all staff records are complete.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following that are accessible to children in care; - A disinfectant aerosol spray bottle in an unlocked bathroom cupboard in the Preschool program. - Two diaper rash creams in buckets on the diaper change table in the Group Child Care (30 months to school age) program. - In the outdoor play area; many branches on the ground throughout the play area, some area's that the black tarp underlay is exposed (potential tripping hazard), a large board resting against the wooden fence. The Manager informed Licensing that the board had been requested to be removed.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that children do not have access to ay objects or substances that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

    Observation. Licensing observed a small TV on a shelf in the Group Child Care (30 months to school age) program. The TV is not secured to the wall, potential to fall on a child and injure a child. The Manager informed Licensing that the TV is usually stored in a cupboard and after movie day on Friday Jan.7/22 it was forgotten to be placed back into the cupboard.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all equipment, furniture and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

    Observation. Upon a random review of five children's records, Licensing observed one child's record missing the name and telephone number of a doctor.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that children's records are complete prior to the child attending the community care facility.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

    Observation. Upon a review of five staff records Licensing observed one staff's criminal record check is not site specific. Licensing provided education that all staff's criminal record checks need to be addressed to the community care facility the staff is working at.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that staff records are complete prior to the staff working at the community care facility.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. The following was observed outside in the outdoor play space: -The fence that encloses the entire yard has been replaced with the exception of 6 panels along one side of the yard that is shared with a neighbor -These panels are showing signs of wear and tear -There have been patchwork repair jobs where 2 x 4's have been nailed onto the existing fence and below near the ground where there were entrapment areas -algae build up has accumulated on the fence which in past may have been power washed but as the wood ages, it becomes softer -some pieces of the wood are showing signs of being splintered -The fence is starting to show signs of being slightly unstable which can be unsafe for the staff and children in the yard

    Corrective action. Please provide a plan how the above will be addressed
