Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the following; - Two containers of push pins and two staplers in an unlocked kitchen drawer. - Two big bottles of hand sanitizer on the bathroom counter.

    Observation. Licensing observed that there isn't sufficient resilient surfacing under the swings and slides. Licensing discussed the importance of having sufficient resilient surfacing for fall zones.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry.     Observation. Upon a review of one staff's certificate, Licensing observed that their early childhood educator (ECE) certificate has not been verified through the ECE registry. Licensing discussed that all new and renewed certificates need to be verified.

    Corrective action. Ensure that staff records are complete.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed an area at the bottom of the wooden fence, in the wood chip area, that is broken and has sharp pieces of wood sticking out.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all the furniture, equipment and fixtures within the community care facility are clean and in good repair.

Licensing observed the following that are accessible to children in care; - Diaper ointment in an unlocked bathroom cupboard. - A perfume bottle, scent spray bottle and two of face creams in unlocked bathroom drawer. (CORRECTED) - A airfreshner spray bottle on the bathroom counter. (CORRECTED) - Two rusted screw heads sticking out of the bottom of the wooden fence in the wood chip area.

    Corrective action. Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon a review of six days of the attendance records for the month of June, Licensing observed the following; - There were 6 children in care however, only two children were signed in for the day, June 29/22. The Manager informed Licensing that children are signed in at the end of the day. Licensing provided education on the importance of ensuring that children's time of arrival is recorded at the time of arrival, as this is also part of active supervision. - 1 day that a child was not identified as present. The Manager said that the child only came for a few hours. Licensing provided education that all children attending the facility need to be identified as present and their time of arrival and departure needs to be recorded.

    Corrective action. Ensure that attendance records are accurate on a daily basis.

Licensing observed the following accessible to children in care: -Lysol spray bottle on the windowsill by the entrance door. - Two adult scissors in an unlocked drawer in the kitchen. (CORRECTED) - A diaper rash cream in an unlocked washroom drawer. - A plastic toy kitchen in the outdoor play area back part is broken . There are some sharp plastic pieces still sticking out.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.
