  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - insufficient resilient surfacing under two slides of a play structure in one of the outdoor play area. - several stacks of 5-6 heavy adult chairs stacked on top of each other in the group child care (30 months to SA) and group child care (SA) program.

    Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - garbage in one of the outdoor playground. A staff collected and disposed of the garbage - the play structure and entire playground, was covered in evergreen leaves - the outdoor equipment and play structure is dirty with black mold

    Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following that are accessible to children in care; - in the GCC ( 30 months to SA) and GCC (SA) program a bleach and water solution bottle and Lysol spray bottle in an unlocked metal cupboard - in the GCC (30 months to SA) and GCC (SA) program a kitchen with unlocked cupboards and drawers containing several big sharp knives, a lighter and bleach solution bottle. Discussed the importance of ensuring that children don't have access to such objects ad substances. Provided suggestion on how to make the kitchen inaccessible to children. - GCC (30 months to SA) program an unlocked cupboard with a bleach and water solution bottle and several airfreshner bottles.

    Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Licensing observed two bathroom stalls in which the toilet paper was placed on top of the toilet paper holder and not in it. Discussed ensuring that toilet paper is placed in its holder and not on top as it can fall on the ground easily and unhygienic.

    Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (k) the date on which the child stops attending the community care facility.

    Observation. Licensing was informed that two children no longer attend the program however, the date on which the children stopped attending was not recorded. The Manager was unaware that the date was required to be recorded. Licensing reviewed this section with the Manager.

    Corrective action. The Manager will ensure that the date a child stops attending is recorded moving forward.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee providing a care program to any child younger than 36 months of age must provide a separate sleeping area located away from any activity area.

    Observation. Licensing observed that there is no separate room being used for nap for the group child care (under 36 months) program. The children are sleeping in the activity area. The designated nap room is being used as a storage room. The Manager was unaware that the nap area had to be separate from the activity area. Licensing provided education and reviewed the, in detail, this section of regulation.

    Corrective action. The Manager will clear out the designated nap room so that it can be utilized as the proper nap area away from the activity area.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed two jars of diaper rash ointment in the a basket on the diaper change table in one of the bathrooms and is accessible to children in care.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

    Observation. Upon a random review of 6 days of the attendance records for the months of October and November 2024, Licensing observed that on 5 days children were not identified as absent. Licensing discussed the intent of the regulation.

    Corrective action. The Manager will ensure that children are identified as absent when away and that attendance records are accurate on a daily basis.

    A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

    Observation. Upon a review of a child's care plan Licensing observed that the medication, to be given to the child, has changed however, the care plan does not identify and reflect the updated medication.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

  • STAFFING

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].

    Observation. Upon a random review of four staff records, Licensing observed that one staff's Criminal Record Check (CRC) is not current and has expired.

    Corrective action. The Manager said that they have applied for a new CRC but have not received the new cleared CRC.

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. Fire extinguisher was due to be serviced in September. Manager stated that they believe that someone came to service the extinguisher but the tags do not reflect this service, therefore, Licensing cannot confirm whether there was a visit.

    Corrective action. Manager stated that they will get in touch with the church to find out whether there was a visit and have the tags updated.
