    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following were observed in the group child care (under 36 months) program; - fridge temperature measured at 8 degrees Celsius - 7 chairs stacked on top of one another, toppling hazard - 2 metal racks rest against the bathroom - no shade in the outdoor play area and the sun shines on the outdoor play area all day long

    Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. The following were observed that are accessible to children; - bleach and water solution spray bottle beside toilet on floor of group child (30 months to SA) bathroom -bleach and water solution spray bottle on counter in group child care (under 36 months) bathroom - couple of vitamin bottles in unlocked cupboard in GCC (30 months to SA) classroom - a child's prescription ointment bottle in their backpack. A staff removed the cream and place it out of children's reach - big bottle of hand soap on the bathroom floor - dirty rags used for cleaning tables and the floor hanging on a metal rack in the bathroom

    Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

    Observation. Water temperature in the bathrooms were measured at 57.8 degrees Celsius.

  • OR SUPERVISION

    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. Upon discussion with the Manager and staff, Licensing observed that there is no infant and toddler educator for 1.5 hours in the morning, in the group child care (under 36 months) classroom. Therefore, the ratio of staff to children is not being met as outlined in Schedule E.

    Observation. The Manager is managing two locations and there is no current exemption that has been granted by the Licensing Officer to allow this.

    Despite this section, during the half hour before a care program begins and the half hour after a care program ends, a licensee may permit children who would otherwise be grouped in different care programs, and who are arriving at or leaving the community care facility, to be grouped together and supervised other than as required under Schedule E if (a) the care program is described as Multi-Age Child Care, Group Child Care (Under 36 Months), Group Child Care (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age).

    Observation. Mixing of groups longer than 30 minutes at the beginning of the day. The children are being mixed for 1 hour.
