    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The door of the playhouse is damaged causing sharp edges.

    Corrective action. The Licensee says that the door of the playhouse will be taken off.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. There is a sheet of ice at the entrance of the playground posing slipping hazard. There is an unsecured microwave on top of the facility fridge which poses a tipping hazard.

    Corrective action. Discussed the intent and requirements of accurate attendance records with Licensee will record time of arrival and departure for each child, everyday.

    Observation. Licensing observed that one of the swing, on the outdoor swing structure, is very close to a big bush/tree causing a child to swing into it if using the swing. Licensing discussed possible solutions.

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Licensing observed three sleeping mats stacked against each other with children's sheets on them. The sheets are touching and potential for cross contamination and spreading of germs. Licensing discussed options to ensure that the bedding are not touching each other.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a program is established to instruct children in and to practice the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. The Manager informed Licensing that the children have not gone outside for the past 2 days due to the weather. A discussion was had about ensuring that children go outside every day for active play.

    Corrective action. Ensure that children are provided outdoor time each day for at least 60 minutes.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,

    Observation. Licensing staff observed few changes in the outdoor play area at today’s inspection. There is a new swing and a climber in the outdoor play area. The climber is about 6 feet tall. Licensee used Turf is beneath the equipment as protective surface. The play area does not meet the required safety guidelines described in the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice Safe Play Space. Licensing observed the following health and safety risk associated with the new designed play area. -The height of climber is not suitable for children under 5 years old. Equipment for toddlers must be no more than 3 feet in height and preschool children must not have access to an equipment more than 5 feet in height. - There is insufficient fall zone around the climber and swing. A six feet clearance around the equipment is considered safest. One side of the climber is too close to the wall. - The fall zone does is not covered with the protective surface. There is concrete path close to the ladder side that is attached to the climber.

    Corrective action. Please ensure to set up the community care facility environment in a manner that promotes the health, safety and dignity of children in care
