Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Two bottles of air freshener were accessible to children in the bathroom. The Manager moved them to an area children cannot access.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon inspection, Lysol was in a cupboard under the sink and there was no lock.

Corrective action. The manager said she will add a lock on the bathroom cupboard.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Upon inspection, there were two cords in the nap room that were accessible to children.

Corrective action. The manager said she is going to secure the cords to the wall and have the items placed on a shelf.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

Observation. Upon inspection, the manager said the emergency evacuation drill was practiced, however, no record was available.

Corrective action. The manager said moving forward, emergency evacuation drills will be documented.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].

Observation. Upon inspection, no staff file was available for a substitute teacher and volunteer

Corrective action. The manager said she has some of the documentation and will ensure all required documents are obtained.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. During routine inspection 5 children's files were reviewed and 2 children's files were missing an emergency contact.

Corrective action. Ensure all children's files are complete.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.

Observation. A record of the person's work history was not obtained for one or more employees.

Corrective action. Ensure staff files are complete.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

Observation. During routine inspection two files were reviewed and both files were missing a validation of ECE certificates.

Corrective action. Licensee attempted to validate the certificate during routine inspection but was unable to. Licensee said she will call ECE Registry to verify validation of ECE Certificates.
