    Observation. Licensing observed a plastic toy wagon that is broken. The pieces that are broken have sharp edges.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area; - overgrown grass and weeds - one of the wooden panels for the wooden fence is broken leaving a gap. - the netting fence around an area not accessible to children is ripped. Potential for children to access the area not for children and/or cut themselves on the ripped netting.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.

    Observation. Licensing observed that a sleeping cot is placed in front of a door and blocking the door leading out of the room. Licensing provided education on ensuring that no furniture is blocking any exits in case of an emergency or having access to the children in the nap room.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

Potential for children to get splinters and/or cut themselves on the sharp edges. - Bleach and water solution bottle on the bathroom counter. The Manager moved it onto a out of reach shelf

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.

    Observation. Licensing observed that there is no log of minor incidents. Parents are informed if a child has a minor accident or illness however, it is not documented. The Manager was unaware of this requirement. Licensing reviewed and provided further education on this section of the regulation.

    Observation. Upon a review of two staff records, Licensing observed that one staff's new certificate has not been validated through the ECE BC registry.

    Observation. Upon a review of the attendance records for the month of June, Licensing observed two days that children's time of departure was not recorded. Licensing discussed how the attendance records is part of active supervision.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the attendance records are accurate on a daily basis.
