A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

Observation. No ECE validation for two staff files.

Corrective action. Will validate and print out validation for staff files.

A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

Observation. Licensing observed the hot water temperature is at 52 degrees Celsius. The licensee said she will get it turned below 49 degrees Celsius.

Corrective action. Please ensure that the hot water temperature is below 49 degrees Celsius.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

Observation. Licensing observed there was no record of the emergency evacuation drill being practiced. The licensee said it wasn't practiced but she will practice it this month with the children.

Corrective action. Please ensure that evacuation drills are practiced on an annual basis.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. In the outdoor play space, there is chicken wire that surrounds rose bushes. One of the pieces needs to be secured again.

Corrective action. Please ensure this piece is in good repair.
