    A licensee must ensure that a child's medication is not accessible to any child, except that a child may have access to his or her own medication if (a) the child's parent has instructed the licensee to permit this.

    Observation. Medication were accessible to children in care.

    Corrective action. The Staff said that they will plan to relocate the medication to a spot that is not accessible to children.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that children in care who require extra support have care plans in place.

    Observation. Children have limited resources, planned programming and equipment outdoors. Children engage in child led games that make it challenging to regulate behavior, resulting in struggles with rules, aggression and personal boundaries that sometimes leads to injuries.

    Corrective action. Ensure a comprehensive and coordinated program of outdoor activities are planned that meet the standards set out in Schedule G.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee may use the same outdoor play area at the same time for more than one care program if there is no increase in the risk to the health and safety of children

    Observation. Children sharing the outdoor play area with the community and school. Identification of the children in care was observed as a challenge due to the shear numbers of children on site after school and at the time of the inspection using the space and equipment. Community Pets on site and interacting with children in care at the time of the inspection. Maintenance of water sewage feature taking place at the time of the inspection posed and additional risk. The LO reviewed these items in depth with the staff and recommended pinnies for identification purposes.

    Corrective action. Ensure the outdoor play area used by other programs and community members must have no increased risk to the health and safety of the children.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Children were observed not washing their hands before eating in the program. The children's lunch and snack was additionally observed as not being stored suitability. The LO reviewed these items in depth with the staff at the time of the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure an effective health an hygiene program is established and practiced.

    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (a) children attending a community care facility are divided into groups, with each group having no more children than that permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. Upon review of the attendance records it was noted that more than the maximum children regularly attend Pod B after-school. The LO reviewed the suitability of this practice due to the uniqueness of the two Pod's the program uses within the school.

    Corrective action. Ensure children are divided into groups as per Schedule E and specific to the usable space within the premise.

    Observation. Fire drills records were reviewed during the inspection. One month in the current school year was missing a drill. LO reviewed this with the staff at the time of the inspection.

    Observation. Staff on site was not able to provide monthly fire drill records and confirmed fire drill practices had not been conducted for the past few months. LO reviewed this requirement during the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure monthly fire drills are practices and recorded.
