  A licensee must ensure that children have at all times immediate access to an employee who (a) holds a valid first aid and CPR certificate, provided on completion of a course that meets the requirements of Schedule C.

  Observation. Upon review of staff files, Licensing Officer noted that children do not have immediate access to an employee who holds a valid first aid and CPR certificate

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. A child's nap bed appeared to be slept on in a room which contained unopened alcohol cans. It was discussed that the room should be safe for the child and the Licensee will lock up the alcohol. A hot tub was observed outside, full of water, and unlocked. It was discussed that the hot tub would be required to be locked.

  Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is maintained.

• LICENSING

  Licensees must not make any structural change to a community care facility unless the licensee first (a) submits plans for the change to a medical health officer.

  Observation. A new garage was built within the last year, without the plans being submitted Licensing.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. The Licensee said she has a kit for emergencies that does not include food or water. It was discussed that the plan should have provisions for food and water.

  Corrective action. Ensure that items to carry out the emergency plan to mitigate, respond to and recover from an emergency are available

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. The Licensee did not have a valid criminal record check.

  Corrective action. The Licensee said she will apply for one today.

• STAFFING

  The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.

  Observation. A criminal record check for a person over the age of 12 who is ordinarily present is not available.

  Corrective action. Ensure that a criminal record check is received.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

  Observation. The hot water accessible to children exceeds 49 degrees.

  Corrective action. The Licensee confirmed that the temperature of the water would be turned down on this date.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. Upon review of 3 children files, Licensing observed that one child was missing doctor's name and phone number on file.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all children files are complete.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

  Observation. Fire drill records were reviewed. Three months of fire drills were not recorded. LO reviewed fire drill protocols with the Licensee at the inspection.

  Corrective action. Ensure fire drills are practiced and recorded monthly.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

  Observation. Play house in the program has a broken door step posing a risk to the children playing in the area. LO discussed this items with the Licensee during the inspection.

  Corrective action. Ensure furniture, equipment and supplies are sturdy and free from hazards.
