• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Privacy film on a window in one of the under 36 months rooms was peeling and was accessible to children.

  Corrective action. The manager peeled off the privacy screen completely.

  Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (a) children attending a community care facility are divided into groups, with each group having no more children than that permitted in Schedule E.

  Observation. Five children in the under 36 months program were over 36 months at the time of inspection.

  Corrective action. The manager has submitted an application to exempt.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. Six staff files were reviewed and several staff were either missing their Criminal Record Check results or they were not site specific.

  Corrective action. Ensure staff files are complete including Criminal Record Checks.

• HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

  A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

  Observation. A garbage can in the toddler room was observed to not have a lid in place posing a health hazard to the children using the facilities in the bathroom. LO reviewed this item with the staff and administration at the time of the inspection.

  Corrective action. Ensure health and hygiene practices are in place in the facility.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. Seven children's files were reviewed. One child did not have evidence of medical practitioner available. LO reviewed this requirement with the staff.

  Corrective action. Ensure children's files are complete including name and phone number of a medical practitioner.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Three staff files were reviewed and once staff did not have evidence of work history/resume available. LO reviewed this requirement with staff during the inspection who corrected immediately.

  Corrective action. Ensure all staff files are complete including evidence of work history.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Cleaning and sanitizing practices were reviewed and observed during the inspection. The same utility clothes are used several times during the day to clean the classroom tables. LO reviewed the guidance for single use clothes to be used for cleaning and disinfecting with the staff and manager.

  Corrective action. Ensure a healthy environment is provided at all times.
