• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the following items accessible to children during the inspection: -a sharp kitchen knife and scissors were stored in a kitchen drawer -an igniter was stored in a kitchen drawer -a tray of raw shrimp in a kitchen cupboard

  Corrective action. The Manager removed items out of reach of children during the inspection.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

  Observation. Upon an inspection of 4 children's file, Licensing noted that one was missing an medical insurance plan number.

  Corrective action. Ensure all children's files are complete.

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. Licensing observed a sharp food prep item located in a drawer accessible by the children.

  Corrective action. Ensure children do not have access to objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health and safety.

• OR SUPERVISION

  Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

  Observation. Licensing observed that the children were in care with a responsible adult from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. There were 6 children care at the time of Licensing and the facility manager's arrival. At this time the facility manager is the only staff member with the required ECE certification.

  Corrective action. Ensure that staff to child ratio is maintained at all times in accordance with Schedule E of the legislation.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. Licensing observed that one of the children's files did not contain an emergency contact.

  Corrective action. Ensure children's files are complete.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Licensing observed that one staff file did not contain evidence of an ECE certificate validation.

  Corrective action. Ensure staff files are complete.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. Licensing observed that the Manager's criminal record check was not site specific.

  Corrective action. Ensure site specific criminal record checks are obtained before start of employment.
