  • C4.1 - Are facility records current and complete?Non-critical

Observation. A review of attendance records showed that one child's time of arrival on the day of inspection, wasn't recorded. This information is required in order to reflect the numbers of children present at any given time in case of emergency, or parent inquiry. A system for ensuring children's times of arrival and departure are recorded as they happen is required.

  • C9.1 - Are there plans and actions in place to ensure medications are stored and administered properly?Non-critical

Observation. During a review of the contents of the emergency bag, an expired epi-pen was discovered. If any medication, including an epi-pen, is requested by parents, to be administered at a child care facility, a signed consent form, and detailed instructions regarding under what circumstances the medication is to be used, are required. Expired medication should be returned to the parent, and a replacement provided, if it is still relevant. Care Plans for children requiring medication should be reviewed with the parents annually. Inform Licensing about the action taken with the expired epi-pen and what system is created for ensuring that the proper documentation is received with medication in the future.

  • C4.1 - Are facility records current and complete?Non-critical

Observation. An incident in which the Licensee took a child to a clinic to receive precautionary medical attention should have been reported to Licensing. An incident report for the past incident is required to be submitted. Minor accidents were observed to have been recorded in a log book, however there was no record of illnesses and unexpected events. In addition to logging minor accidents, a system for logging illnesses and unexpected events is required. One of the three random children's files that were reviewed during the inspection, was missing the name and phone number of an emergency contact person other than a parent. Each child must have a contact who is someone other than their parent. A child's attendance record was observed to be missing their time of arrival on the day of inspection. Times of arrival and departure and an indication of whether a child is absent, is required. Records of on-site play space inspections were viewed during the inspection. Inspections of off-site play areas must also be recorded when conducted. Off-site play areas must be inspected prior to children playing at the site.
