Observation. While staff are trained and able to administer medications, there is one Epi-pen that has expired and needs to be replace.

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction. They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]
Observation. There is daily cleaning throughout the facility. But, there are also areas of wear and tear - bathroom, step stools, tables and chairs. LO recommends putting long and short term maintenance plans in place to address items as they arise.

Observation. Manager was not on site during today's visit. Staff on site stated that they do not know where the staff files are kept, and do not know if there is a staff checklist available. LO will send a copy of the staff checklist as an option for Manager to keep on site when she is not there. LO will return soon to ensure all staff files are complete, and if the manager is not on site, what option is there for LO know files are complete.

Observation. LO observed that 4 children with life threatening allergies who require that an epi-pen be administered in the event of an emergency did not have a request for administration of medication form on file.

Furniture or equipment for sleeping is used by only one child at a time, is clean and comfortable, and is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it. [CCLR Sec. 15(2)]
Observation. In the sleeping area, LO observed that the cots used for sleeping were stacked on top of each other and the bedding was touching. Discussion took place with the manager with regards to the risk of cross contamination.

Observation. In the children's washrooms located on the lower and upper level of the facility, LO observed cleaning supplies such as 2 toilet plungers and 3 toilet cleaning bowl brushes accessible by children.

Heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius. [CCLR Sec. 47]
Observation. In the children's washrooms located on the lower and upper levels of the facility, LO observed the hot water for 3 handwashing sinks to be over 49 degrees Celsius. Discussion took place with manager with regards to reducing the temperature for the 3 handwashing sinks .

Observation. LO observed care plans for 4 children with life threatening allergies on file are incomplete. One of which hasn't been reviewed since July 2020. Discussion took place with manager with regards to reviewing care plans at least once a year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and reviewing the care plans to ensure they are complete prior to posting.

Observation. LO reviewed all children's records and observed the following: -a photo or digital image has not been kept for 1 child -immunization status has not been obtained for 5 children

Observation. LO reviewed staff records and observed the following: -immunization status has not been obtained for 1 staff -evidence for Responsible Adult training such as copies of diplomas, certificates or other training and skills have not been obtained for 1 staff -character reference checks have not been obtained for 2 staff. In addition, insufficient number of character reference checks have not been obtained for 2 staff.
