  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical

All indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children, safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)]

Observation. While there is equipment and furniture available, LO had a discussion with Licensee regarding removing some of the highchairs as most of the children enrolled do not require them. It is important to regularly review what is available as LO observed that the play kitchen does not have play food or dishes, and there appears to be limited toys for free play. It was also noted that there is an 'exersaucer' that is not age appropriate for the children currently enrolled (it may also be considered a restrained depending on how and when it is used) and other items that are limited or not enough for multiple children to uses. In the outside play area, there is a pallet being used to cover a tree stump that is going to be removed, The licensee is concerned with safety of this "stump" due to its location near the fence and concrete path. Unfortunately, it appears that there are additional safety concerns around using the pallet to hide the "stump".

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Community Care Facility RecordsNon-critical

There is current log of minor incidents, illnesses and unexpected events, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H. [CCLR Sec. 56 (1)(f)]

Observation. There is a log book on site, but it has not been used since April 2024. The log book must be used to note all incidents that occur, including any incident that you would share with a parent or another staff. As well as any information that parents share with staff. Other times to use log book include: - Anytime you stop your regular activities to deal with a situation, - information from a parent or to a parent regarding teething, biting, sleep, etc., - behaviour that is not a child's typical - change in children in any way - any injury - even if first aid was not required, - information to and from parent about changes in attendance, if child is ill, etc. As there will be times that a non-reportable incident will turn into a reportable incident, using the log book will allow you to have the required information readily available.

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

Observation. In the nap room, it was observed that a plug is beside a portable crib, and that the wire leads to a small speaker in the window sill. If a young child were to pull the cord into the crib, it could be a hazard.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Records For Each ChildNon-critical

A record for each child containing the daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure is not kept. [CCLR Sec. 57(2)(c)]; A record for each child containing the name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact is not kept. [CCLR Sec. 57(2)(d)]

Observation. LO observed that attendance was not accurate upon arrival - this was corrected by Manager during visit. It was also observed that 3 children do not have emergency contact information that is different from the parent.
