  Observation. Licensing Officer observed that an EpiPen and an inhaler are available for two children to be administered by staff; however, there is no completed Request for Administration of Medication form on file for these children. Additionally, the zipper on the pouch used to store the EpiPen is broken. This creates a barrier to staff accessing the medication promptly in the event of an emergency, which may delay timely response to a child’s medical needs.

  Observation. In the outdoor play space, Licensing Officer observed the following: -In Play Area 1, a wooden bench appears to be in poor repair, with four boards observed to be broken and cracked. Additionally, in Play Area 3, the edging of a wooden bench is in poor condition, with wood that is deteriorating and rough to the touch. These conditions pose a risk of injury to children in care. -In Play Area 2, tree roots appear to be causing the rubber surfacing tile to lift. This creates an uneven surface and poses a tripping hazard to both children and staff.

  The licensee does not keep a current care plan for each child requiring extra support. [CCLR Sec. 58(1)]

  Observation. Licensing Officer observed that an asthma care plan for one child indicated expired medication. A discussion took place regarding the importance of reviewing and updating care plans on at least an annual basis to ensure all information, including medication details, remains current and accurate.

  Observation. Licensing Officer reviewed a sampling of the children's records and observed that medical practitioner information is not kept for 1 child.

  Maintenance of Equipment: A log is kept of all inspections, maintenance and repairs. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space]

  Observation. Licensing Officer observed that a maintenance log for equipment is being kept; however the entries appear to be inconsistent. Licensing recommends that a consistent and clearly organized plan be implemented to ensure regular inspection and upkeep of equipment.

  Observation. During the inspection, Licensing Officer observed that documentation for the Behaviour Interventionist was not available for review as noted below. -immunization status has not been obtained -character references have not been obtained -criminal record check has not been obtained

  Observation. LO observed a loose faucet in the washroom sink in the Preschool 1 classroom. The faucet is no longer in good repair.

  Observation. There were areas in the facility showing signs of wear and tear, such as Cupboard door, shelving not secure and chipped paint

  Observation. LO observed cleaner on the shelf in one of the washrooms and there is a key in the lock to a storage room that children have access to.

  The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]

  Observation. The outside area has thistle bush that is taking up space in the play area and could injure children. There is also a gate latch that is broken and does not remain closed.
