Observation. Upon inspection, Licensing oberserved one staff to not have a site specific criminal record check

Corrective action. The Manager confirmed it was the staff's first day and they were in the process of getting the criminal record check

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon inspection, Licensing observed two staff files to be missing their immunization status

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed cleaning products accessible to children. The cleaning products were moved to a higher shelf that is now inaccessible

Observation. The Manager explained that emergency drills have been conducted yearly but have not been recorded. The Manager was unaware that these type of drills needed to be recorded.

Corrective action. A licensee must keep records respecting compliance with section 22 (2)(b) and (c)

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

Observation. Licensing reviewed 6 staff files and 2 files were missing evidence of certificate validation.

Corrective action. Please ensure staff files are complete with their required documents

Observation. Upon inspection there was a blind cord accessible to the children and a rope tied to the climber outside that posed a strangulation hazard.

Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times that children are in care.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon inspection there was a spray bottle of cleaning solution accessible to the children in care.

Corrective action. Please ensure that children do not have access to any substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of a child.

A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.

Observation. Upon inspection, 3 staff certificates were not posted in the facility.

Corrective action. Please ensure certificates are posted in a prominent place in the facility.

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. Upon inspection the 2 fire extinguishers were over due for their yearly inspections.

Corrective action. Please ensure the fire extinguishers are maintained.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.

Observation. Upon review of the children's records, 3 children's files did not contain a start date.

Corrective action. Please ensure the children's files are complete.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. Upon review of the children's records, 3 files did not contain a doctors name and 1 file did not have emergency contacts listed.

Corrective action. Please ensure that the children's files are complete.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.

Observation. Upon asking the Manager to see a photograph of the children or a digital image, the Manager said that she did not have one for one of the children.

Corrective action. Please ensure children's files are complete with a photograph or digital image of the child.

Observation. The facility did not have any emergency supplies available for review. The manager explained that parents will be providing these supplies. Licensing advised that it is important to have enough food and water for 72 hours in the event of an emergency.
