    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. During inspection Licensing observed: -wear and tear on the wooden bathroom stool, making it porous and not easy to sanitize - dust buildup and one dead fly observed in the bathtub used to store potty seats

    Corrective action. Licensee said the bathtub will be cleaned daily and the stool repaired to make it easier to clean and sanitize.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. During inspection Licensing observed upon arrival: ·Visible dirt and dust particles build-up on the floor in the play area and nap room. The Manager swept the daycare floor during the inspection. ·Dirt build-up around the sink on the bathroom counter. ·Sleeping mats had not been sanitized. ·Mold build-up on the outdoor siding beside the entrance door; within children reach. Manager explained that daily cleaning is typically done after daycare is closed, but this was not done yesterday.

    Corrective action. The Manager said she will ensure that daily cleaning and sanitizing routines are completed before the children arrive.

    Observation. One staff file did not have verified character references. This is repeat violation from previous inspection.

    Corrective action. The manager said that character references will be obtained, verified, and the verification date will be documented in the staff files.

    Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one staff. This is repeat violation from previous inspection.

    Corrective action. The Manager will obtain evidence of the staff's immunization status to be kept in staff’s file.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. During inspection Licensing observed: -In the main play area children had access to Volunteer's personal purse which contained cosmetics. Manager removed it during inspection. - In the bathroom's bathtub an inflated balloon was accessible to children. Another balloon was observed stored on top of the fridge. Licensing discussed balloons pose as a suffocation and choking hazard for infants and toddlers.Manager said the balloons have been there from the weekend before but have not been used by children.

    Corrective action. Please make sure balloons and staff personal belongings such as purses and bags are inaccessible to children at all times.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. 4 step dishwashing method is not being used appropriately for washing children utensils; because the sanitizer is sprayed on the clean utensils rather than soaking them in a sanitizing solution. Licensing observed 4 steps dishwashing procedures posted on the kitchen wall and asked the Manager to wash and sanitize dishes by following the posted instructions.

    Corrective action. Please use 4 steps dishwashing method for hand washing daycare utensils in a sink.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. During inspection Licensing observed: - Couch used by children in the main play area had visible tears and rips ; the non porous material used for covering these tears is peeling off at the edges exposing the foam underneath. Sofa covering has worn out on the arm rests as well, exposing the foam underneath. Licensing discussed exposed foam can harbour germs as it is difficult to clean and sanitize it. - Play area, naproom and bathroom walls have some spots where paint and wall paper have peeled off, revealing the drywall underneath. - In all the rooms; the wall areas at children height had multiple stain marks and are in need of cleaning.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the facility, furniture and fixtures are clean and in good repair.

  • NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES

    A licensee must (b) promote healthy eating and nutritional habits. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon arrival Licensing observed a child walking around, climbing the couch and playing while eating. Licensing brought this to the manager attention; she said that typically children sit for eating routines but this afternoon is busy that’s why this happened. Licensing explained to the manager; this is not a safe eating practice and the child's hands were dirty from playing on the floor.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all children are supervised during eating routines.

    A licensee must ensure that children are supervised at all times by a person who is an educator, an assistant or a responsible adult.

    Observation. Upon arrival a toddler opened the entrance door to let the licensing officer inside the daycare. Licensing officer did not see any staff upon entering and then saw Manager come out of the kitchen area immediately after. Licensing expressed concern about a toddler opening the daycare entrance door; the Manager said this door does have a child proof lock and a door chime; but it was not used today.

    Corrective action. Infants and toddlers must not open the daycare entrance door by themselves and without staff supervision.
