The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

Observation. One child with an allergy did not have a care plan

Corrective action. The manager said that they will discuss the allergy with the parents and develop a care plan

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. 5 staff files were reviewed and 2 files did not have Criminal Record Check clearence letters that were site specific

Corrective action. The manager said the Criminal Record checks will be obtained

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. Licensing observed that fire drills were logged and upon discussion with the staff member, licensing was notified that there has been no practice of the drills.

Corrective action. 2 staff confirmed that they have not practiced fire/emergency drills. The administrator said that she will speak to the manager and ensure that the staff/children are practicing the drills on a monthly or yearly basis.

A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

Observation. A sandbox has been installed and it has not been covered when not in use.

Corrective action. Pleas ensure a sandbox cover for hygiene purposes.

A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,

Observation. There was no medication for a child who requires it as per the information in the child's registration form.

Corrective action. Please ensure medication is available if a child requires it to address a medical condition.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

Observation. Licensing reviewed 3 staff files and one staff was missing record of certificate validation. This is a repeat contravention as it was identified during last year's routine inspection.

Corrective action. Please verify staff certificates using the system maintained by the ECE registry.

Observation. Licensing reviewed three staff files and observed that record of work history was missing for one staff.

Corrective action. Please obtain a record of the person's work history (resume) prior to employment.

Observation. Licensing reviewed three staff files and observed that record of a criminal record check (CRC) clearance letter was missing for one staff. On file was a CRC from a different province. A staff member said they will ensure the application is submitted by the end of the day.

Corrective action. Please ensure all person's complete their CRC through the Criminal Record Review Program prior to employment.

A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed sleeping cots with children's bedsheets and blankets touching. The manager separated the cots during the inspection.

Corrective action. Please ensure rules of health and hygiene are practiced.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (g) any notification of a parent, emergency contact or medical health officer made under section 55 [notification of illness or injury]. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Staff have been notifying parents of any minor injuries or illnessess involving their children while in care. However, records of the notifications have not been maintained.
