A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].
Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Sanitizing spray available for disinfecting surfaces. A discussion occurred regarding the two-step cleaning method. Resource to be provided. - Floor vent top no longer secured to the floor. The opening measures approximately 10 inches in length and 4.5 inches in width, creating an entrapment hazard. - In the outdoor play area, a hanging rope and hanging rope ladder, which the Manager noted are used for open-ended building activities, were positioned in a way that created a potential choking hazard. The rope and ladder were secured during the inspection. - Sanitizing spray bottles in two facility rooms were placed in areas potentially accessible to children. The bottles were relocated to inaccessible locations during the inspection.
- PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical
Not enclosed.; Not in good repair.
Observation. Licensing observed the following: - The back gate in the outdoor play area is locked, but during the inspection there was a 5.5-inch gap, creating an entrapment hazard and a potential opening for a child to exit the outdoor play area. A section of the outdoor play area fence is also falling and no longer in good repair. These issues were previously observed and noted during the routine inspection on July 31, 2024. - The stairs leading to a higher portion of the outdoor play area show signs of wear on the grip tape, which helps prevent slip and fall hazards. The manager noted that this tape is planned for replacement.
- POLICIES AND PROCEDURES / Emergency Training and EquipmentNon-critical
There is an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency. [CCLR Sec. 22(1)(b)]
Observation. Discussion occurred with the Manager regarding emergency supplies. The Manager shared that the supplies are difficult to access and understands that, as a result, they cannot be readily checked for sufficiency or to determine if food and water are expired. Due to this inaccessibility, the area is considered not in compliance. Licensing to provide a resource regarding emergency plan preparedness.
- RECORDS AND REPORTING / Care PlansNon-critical
For each child requiring extra support, the licensee keeps a current care plan showing the required information. [CCLR Sec. 58(1)(2)]
Observation. Medication for a child with an anaphylactic allergy was available in the child’s backpack. The medication was not kept with a medical care plan. The Manager was able to present a care plan containing relevant information about the allergy, but it was missing details such as the parent’s signature, medication expiry date, and instructions for use. Licensing to provide an anaphylactic allergy care plan template.

The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]
Observation. The outdoor area is showing signs of wear and tear. Some pieces of equipment are no longer appropriate as they are showing signs of rot and deterioration. There are cement blocks with rough edges in the play space. The gravel under and around the climbing structure is insufficient in depth to provide resiliency should a child fall from the climber. There are sections of the fence that are compromised creating spaces for children to get out. The back gate area is locked however, the gap between the two pieces is large enough for a child to get through. There is a section behind the shed where items no longer in use are being stored. This area would be inappropriate for children's access, however, they can access due to minimal fencing or barriers. There are some broken buckets with sharp edges.
