    Observation. The facility’s outdoor play area renovation project is now complete. Licensing observed the GCC (Under 36 Months) side and noted the following potential entrapment hazards: - Slide play equipment has an opening of 5 inches - Sandbox wooden structure has a middle section opening of 8 3/8 inches and a top portion opening of 7 3/4 inches Discussion with the Manager also occurred regarding the log table and monitoring the woodchip level underneath, which currently has an opening of approximately 10 inches between the woodchips and the table.

    Observation. - Carpet edges were curling up, creating a potential tripping hazard, as also noted in the August 8, 2023 inspection. - A diapering mat was worn, making it more difficult to clean effectively. - Areas of the facility, including children’s bathrooms, show wear and grime build-up. The Manager noted the need for cleaning and repair.

    Observation. The outdoor playground surfacing will require an upgrade / change. There is mostly sand and hard pack dirt which is slippery and subject to animal feces as it presents as one large sandbox. The designated sandbox was not in use and was not covered.

    Behavioural guidance is appropriate to the age and development of each child. [CCLR Sec.51(1)(a)]

    Observation. LO observed a child put their entire face into the water table and take a drink several times, the staff did not respond. LO mentioned that the child could be thirsty, after a few times mentioning this a staff asked the child if they were thirsty and then when the child said yes, the staff got the water bottles. At a different water table, a child was splashing water at another child, this was pointed out by LO as the other child was getting upset. A staff was adjacent but did not respond until prompted. The staff then said'"no thank you" to the water throwing. One group was sitting down to lunch, there was fairly loud music playing and this continued throughout lunch time, there was limited conversation or interactions between staff and children.

    Observation. One child's Epi Pen had expired in April.

    Observation. The carpet edges were curling in a couple of the play rooms creating a tripping hazard. The upstairs deck has stairs leading to the top floor, there was no gate present.

    The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

    Observation. The loose floor board has been fixed The curling edges of the area rug have been corrected Anti-slip strips have been applied to the stairs Wooden planks on the sundeck have been evened out As discussed with the manager, the edge of the woodchips is closer than six feet. Foam has been applied to the wooden edge at the bottom of the slide, however is does not stay in place. The facility Manger is looking into extending the area of woodchips at the bottom of the slide so that it measures 6 feet from the bottom of the slide.

    The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

    Observation. In one of the classrooms there is a floor board loose. In the Daffodil room the area rug is curling at the edges. The anti slip strips on the stairs on the north side of the building that access the wood deck are peeling. There are some wood planks on the sundeck that are uneven at the seams. The red slide has an abrupt landing and is fairly close to the wooden edge of the wood chips.
