• CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION / Safe Play Space Standard of PracticeNon-critical

  Supervision of Play Spaces: Staff practice active supervision, including a combination of close proximity and attention, watching, and listening. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space].

  Observation. At the time of this inspection the manager was attending a child that had an incident and required assistance inside the building/washroom. The door had to be closed for privacy reasons while two other children remained in the classroom without direct supervision and the facility door was open. The other children attending the facility were outside wide spread on the school grounds/playgrounds. Some children had no direct supervision and when asked by the licensing officers where are the staff ,the children could not point out as the staff were not visible(six children were playing hockey on the first playground/concrete area). The licensing officers found the two staff sanding beside each other at the second playground(where the climbing structure was). The licensing officers asked the staff to gather the children as some were far from the staff and to ensure that only two areas /playgrounds are used in order to provide direct supervision. The licensing officers asked staff to position themselves in a way that can see and attend children when needed. The manager informed that had to attend two children due to incidents and needed assistance,which impacted the supervision.

  Observation. Licensing officers noted that one staff was observing children engaging in inadequate play that could cause injuries ,however would not intervene.

  Observation. Licensing officers noted some children were not using the swings appropriately. some other children were on the climbing structure with the hockey sticks. Some were pushing the child in front of them to go faster on the slide. The licensing officers asked the staff to intervene in order to mitigate the risk for injuries.
