  The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]

  Observation. The designated play space is located on a cement area adjacent to a cement retaining wall. The retaining wall is at the children’s height, and the sharp edge is directly exposed to them. This poses a safety concern, as a child could sustain a serious injury if they were to fall and hit the edge of the wall.

  Implementation of the fire drill system is practiced at least once each month, and implementation of the emergency plan is practiced at least once each year. [CCLR Sec. 22(2)(b)(c)]

  Observation. Fire drills had not been practiced nor recorded for several months. The fire drills are recorded as taking up to 30 minutes as the manager spends time explaining and educating the children.

  Observation. There were 8 children present with one ECEA.

  The certificates, or copies of certificates, of early childhood educators and assistants are prominently displayed in the facility. [CCLR 11(4)]

  Observation. The only certificate posted was that of the Licensee, not of the staff present.

  A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].

  Observation. When the LO arrived to conduct the inspection there were two children awake in the playroom. The staff present had her lap top open. The staff indicated that she was working on her ECE, and returned to the lap top during the inspection while the two children were on the carpet. It appeared as though the staff was doing some computer work while the awake children played on their own.

  All indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children, safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)]

  Observation. The children no longer have access to the grass area of the yard, they play on the concrete slab under the patio and out to the back gate. There are some toys and equipment present however, not enough materials/ toys and equipment to meet schedule G for all ages in attendance.

  Observation. LO asked staff present if there was a minor log book and the staff was unsure and unable to produce.

  Observation. The staff present was unable to produce any children's records. The sign in sheet did not have a date.

  Observation. The staff who was present, Fatemeh was unable to produce a staff files that would have contained the required documentation.

  Observation. There is a shower stall in the washroom accessible to children and it is full of supplies, some cleaning / janitorial.

  Observation. There were plastic bags in the cupboard under the sink in the kitchen area which is in the main play space accessible to children. The restrictor on the door was not evident.
