  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

Observation. Licensing observed the following : 1. The boys' washroom caulking has accumulated buildup around the toilet and tile, leaving the area porous and not easy to clean. 2. Some vinyl baseboard in the classroom has detached from the wall. Licensing was informed that a plan of touched up is in place to address this during the upcoming spring break. 3. The edges of the carpet curling up create a potential tripping hazard for the children. 4. The red leather couch is not in good condition; the surface is ripped and faded, making it no longer able to be cleaned and sanitized effectively. 5. A black single-seater sofa chair is no longer in good repair with a broken leg, and the surface is shredding, making it unable to be cleaned and sanitized effectively. Staff has been advised to provide supervision of children using this chair until it is removed. 6. A shelf that is over 4ft in height has detached from the wall and is no longer anchored. Staff has been advised to provide continue supervision while children are at play around the area. A conversation occurred with the staff to closely monitor the area with loose electrical cords, cleaning tools and portable heater.

Observation. Licensing observed two fire extinguishers were expired.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Records For Each ChildNon-critical

A record for each child containing the name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact is not kept. [CCLR Sec. 57(2)(d)]; A record for each child containing the name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status is not kept. [CCLR Sec. 57(2)(a)]

Observation. Licensing observed that multiple children's files were incomplete, such as missing emergency contacts other than parents, medical numbers not being kept, and immunization statuses not being on file, etc. All staff members were aware of a custody agreement for a child verbally; however, the document was not kept in the children's file. For best practice, court orders or custody agreements should be kept in the children's files for the purpose of that in case of a change of staff, other substitutes would have access to the children's records and follow through the agreement of releasing the child to the legal guardian.
