  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical

The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]

Observation. The gate to the outdoor play area continues to be deficient. The Manager has explained that repairs have been attempted however the date does not function correctly and the self-closing feature does not work. This creates a safety hazard and must be given a high priority. The issue of standing water and drainage problems is addressed in another area of this report. This has also been and ongoing issue that needs to be resolved.

A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].

In some areas (such as the mud kitchen), the water was a few inches deep. The gate into the playground has a self-closing gate that does not work correctly, causing the gate to bounce off the latch, rather than closing completely.
