A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Two baseboard heaters; one in the children's play room and one in the children's nap room were hot to the touch and accessible to children. Licensing observed a child putting a plastic spoon in the heater in the play room.

Corrective action. Manager said she will look at options to make the heater inaccessible to children.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Toilet cleaner was stored in a low cupboard in the washroom with no lock, making it accessible to children.

Corrective action. The manager said she will remove the cleaner until a lock is installed

Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

Observation. A staffing exemption was expired and the staff has continued to work alone in the program with an ECEA certificate.

Corrective action. Ensure the employee to child ratio as per Schedule E is maintained.

In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.

Observation. No file on site for 1 staff who works in the program.

Corrective action. The manager said she will obtain the file for the staff.
