A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Nap mats in the multiage classroom were torn and unable to be properly cleaned or sanitized
Corrective action. The Manager removed the ripped mats and replaced them during inspection. The Manager said mats will be checked regularly and fixed or replaced as required.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment]. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Fire drills were not recorded for 4 out of the past 12 months.
Corrective action. The Manager confirmed they were practiced. The Manager created new drill logs to document monthly for each program

Observation. The emergency supplies did not contain food. The water was not sufficient to the number of children in care.
Corrective action. The manager said she will purchase additional supplies with non perishable food and ensure they are checked yearly

Observation. Licensing observed the following during the inspection: - A shelving unit in the nap room was unstable and not secured to the wall - Bleach was located under the downstairs bathroom sink accessible to children - 2 windows on the second floor had a window lock but were opened wide enough that a child could fit their body through. The manager closed and secured the windows further while licensing was on site. - 1 window on the second floor was open and not secured with a window lock

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a large, heavy fan on a low shelf in the 3-5 program accessible to children in care. The concern is that the fan may fall on a child. The Manager removed the fan while licensing was on site.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation. Licensing reviewed policies and procedures and identified that the supervision policy did not include a washroom plan in the event that a teacher is working alone in the preschool program. The policy indicates that there will be two teachers at all times. However, there was only one teacher present at the time of the inspection. Licensing discussed supervision strategies and program modifications.
Corrective action. Please ensure policies and procedures are created to guide staff in providing care and supervision.
