    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - a portable heater in use within children's reach - a heavy object on open shelving with an unsecured electrical cord that was within the reach of children in a nap room; posing a risk if a child were to pull the cord and the heavy object could fall; the cord also poses a risk of entanglement - an uncovered electrical outlet in a nap room

    Corrective action. The heavy object on a shelf with an unsecured cord was removed during the inspection, along with the portable heater. The Licensee will ensure that all electrical outlets are covered.

    Observation. Two Group - under 36 month classrooms did not have an IT staff in ratio during staff break, as required.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - There is insufficient shade provided to protect children from sunburn and sunstroke - A refrigerator that staff explained is for storing children's bottles is located in a bathroom - Diaper cream was stored accessible to children, under a sink in the children's bathroom. This was removed by a staff during the inspection.

    Corrective action. A staff said that shade will be provided today and the refrigerator will be moved out of the bathroom.

    Observation. Licensing observed staff applying sunscreen to multiple children; without washing their hands between each child/application which is not hygienic as this could spread illness.

    Corrective action. A staff confirmed that staff will wash hands in between each application of sunscreen.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed the emergency kits for each classroom, 7 out of 8 kits have expired food. The manager said that staff were told to go through them in December and let families know.

    Corrective action. Ensure that all emergency kits have supplies, food, and water that is not expired.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. A large metal play structure in the children's outdoor space has a broken section with a jagged rusty edge. The manager explained that the facility is awaiting repair of the equipment and during the inspection covered the jagged rusty edge with heavy tape.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the equipment is in good repair.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Plastic bags stored in cupboards under the sinks in both the Preschool 2 room and the Infant/Toddler #1 bathroom. Licensing notes that the bathroom door has a child lock on it, but once inside, the cupboard is accessible to children. - The laundry room door was open leaving hazardous items such as bleach, laundry detergent accessible to children.

    Corrective action. The hazardous items in the laundry room had been removed on the second day of inspection but the door was still open. Please ensure the room is inaccessible to children at all times and that a safe environment is provided.

They did, however, have current clearances from a previous facility. Supervisor said that they had been sent for but there is no evidence to speak to the request for sharing being made.
