    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. A black box used for rodent control was located in the upper playground along the fence line accessible to children. It was discussed moving it to an area where children are not able to access it.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A rocking chair was located in front of an emergency exit door in the Nest classroom. The staff person moved the chair during the inspection.

    Observation. Carpets in two classrooms and walls in 2 classroom are in poor repair. The Manager said that they have requested for new carpets and painting.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the fixtures are in good repair.

    Observation. At today's inspection Licensing observed that the fire extinguishers were expired and not serviced annually.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that fire extinguishers are serviced annually.

    Observation. Review of 14 children's files observed 5 missing the medical practitioners name and telephone number. The Manager said that she is actively working on obtaining the information to complete children's files.

    Corrective action. Please ensure children's files are complete, a medical walk in clinic is acceptable.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was observed: - Mops and cleaning items were stored next to a toilet in the nest room - a broken bleach bottle was hanging in the Rainforest room. The Manager corrected this during the inspection. -Nap time dividers were stored in the bathroom in the Garden room. - Nap beds and bedding were touching in 3 classrooms.

    Corrective action. Please provide a written response how you have addressed the above items to ensure a healthy and safe environment,

    A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (a) a covered container for soiled clothing.

    Observation. It was observed in 2 rooms that the container containing diapers did not have a cover.

    Corrective action. Ensure that there is a cover container next to the diapering area.

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Staff and children did not wash hands after diaper changes in an infant toddler program. Children did not wash hands after entering the classroom or prior to eating.

    Corrective action. Ensure that staff and children are washing hands after diapering, when returning inside from outside, and prior to eating.
