    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

    Observation. Review of 9 staff files noted 1 Criminal Record Check on file was not site specific and 1 Criminal Record Check was not obtained for a staff person on site. There is documentation of an application in the staff file and the Manager said the staff will not be working alone with children in care.

    Corrective action. Please ensure to obtain Criminal Record Checks prior to staff commencing work and ensure Criminal Record Checks are site specific.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. During inspection Licensing observed an area of wall space in the IT Program where the gyprock is exposed at the children's level. This poses a risk to children as it appears they may have been picking at it with their fingers. The Director was on site and has put forward a plan to address this issue.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. It was observed that a large amount of standing water was on the sandbox cover. A new climber was built without any resilient surfacing below.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was observed: - Broken fence and gate in the 3-5 playground with sharp nails exposed. Corrected on second day of inspection. -Infant Toddler playhouse door was broken and propped against the playhouse. -Morning Glory was present on the Infant toddler and 3-5 playgrounds. The plant seeds are poisonous to children.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care. - Please provide a plan of how you will ensure children are not in contact with morning glory when outside.

    A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (a) a covered container for soiled clothing.

    Observation. the garbage can next to the diaper change area that was used for soiled diapers did not have a lid.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the garbage can next to the diaper change area used for diapers is covered.
