  • C3.1 - Does the facility have sufficient employees who possess adequate training and experience to meet the care, supervision, and needs of the children?Non-critical

    Observation. - The Licensing Officer observed that the Licensee's first aid certificate was expired. The Licensee provided confirmation to the Licensing Officer that they were registered in a first aid course to renew their certificate on October 26, 2024. The criminal record checks for the Licensee and for the Licensee's family member currently living in the home were reviewed by the Licensing Officer. Both criminal records checks were still valid.

  • C4.1 - Are facility records current and complete?Non-critical

    Observation. - The Licensing Officer reviewed the current children's records. Some information such as emergency contacts other than the parents and doctor/clinic contact information was incomplete. - The Licensing Officer reviewed the play space inspection log and it was not up to date. Other record keeping systems, such as the daily attendance records and the system for recording minor incidents were reviewed by the Licensing Officer and they appeared satisfactory.

  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

    Observation. - The Licensing Officer observed play equipment in the outside play space that did not have a 6 ft clearance around the equipment to ensure safe entering and exiting of the equipment. - The Licensing Officer observed a safety gate at the entrance to the outside storage area that was not secured. This storage area contained hazardous items and was accessible to the children in care. - The first aid kits contained expired supplies.

  • C2.1 - Are written policies and procedures in place to guide employees in all matters regarding the care and supervision of children?Non-critical

    Observation. - The Licensing Officer observed that the large scale evacuation plan had not been practiced and recorded annually as required. The Licensing Officer observed the completed monthly fire drill record displayed as required. The Licensing Officer and the Licensee discussed the required policies and procedures currently in place. The Licensee confirmed that no revisions to these polices had occurred since the last routine inspection.

Other record keeping systems such as the daily attendance and the minor incident log were reviewed by Licensing and they appeared satisfactory.

    Observation. - A safety gate is needed at the bottom of the interior stairs to prevent the children in care from having access to potentially unsafe areas and/or areas not used for child care.

    Observation. - A criminal record check from the Criminal Records Review Program in Victoria is needed for a person living in the home and who is over the age of 12 years. Documents required for the Licensee such as first aid and a criminal record check were valid.

    Observation. - Ensure that the record of monthly fire drills are displayed as required. Licensing reviewed and discussed policies and procedures including the safety protocols in place for Covid-19 with the licensee.

    Observation. - Some child records were missing doctor/clinic contact information and the immunization status of the child. Other record keeping methods were reviewed by licensing (i.e. attendance records, minor incident log, playground maintenance log, etc.) and they appeared satisfactory.

    Observation. - A hazardous object and product were found to be accessible to the children in care in the craft room cupboard and the kitchen drawer. *The hazardous object found in the kitchen drawer was resolved during the inspection by the licensee. - The safety gate blocking access to the outside storage area required securing.
