April 10, 2025Routine Inspection2 non-critical
- C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical
Observation. -A pressure mounted safety gate at the top of the stairs was not in place at the time of inspection. A fixed, permanently mounted gate is appropriate to be installed at the top of a staircase at all times, to ensure that access to the steep staircase is inaccessible to children when they are on the upper level. A pressure mounted gate does not provide adequate risk mitigation and there is a higher likelihood that it is not replaced each time it is removed. Provide a written compliance plan with photo evidence on or before Monday April 14, 2025. -One electrical outlet was not covered in the children's play area. This poses a risk to children's safety. Provide a written compliance plan with photo evidence on or before Monday April 14, 2025.
- C4.1 - Are facility records current and complete?Non-critical
Observation. -A log of minor accidents, illness and unexpected events has not been kept since June 2024. A log of these incidents is required. Submit a written compliance plan regarding this on or before April 17 2025. -Child records did not contain up to date photos of each child. One child record did not have medical practitioner information. It is important for child safety, especially in emergency situations that all child information is up to date. Ensure all child records and emergency cards are reviewed and up to date and submit written plan that addresses how you have corrected these issues on or before April 17 2025. -A log of daily play space inspections/maintenance is not being kept. A log is important to not only remind employees to complete these checks, but to demonstrate that they are being completed on a regular basis to ensure a safe, well maintained play space. Submit a written compliance plan that addresses how this has been corrected on or before April 17 2025.

- C10.2 - Are children supervised, and are employee to children ratios maintained?Critical
Observation. It was alleged that children engaged in inappropriate behaviour during nap time due to inadequate supervision. As a result of follow up, which included on site observation and an interview with the licensee, it has been determined that children have not been adequately supervised on multiple occasions. The licensee must provide a detailed plan regarding how children will be supervised at all times of the day.
- C1.1 - Does the licensee continually inform licensing of any significant changes to the structure or operation of the facility?Critical
Observation. As part of follow up related to information provided in the complaint, the Licensee was interviewed. During this interview, it was determined that one child naps in a bedroom on the upper level of the facility. Upon review of the documents provided to Licensing in the application phase, original floor plans outlined upstairs bedrooms as inaccessible to children, and the nap room on the lower level. Licensing was not notified of any change to these initial plans. Children napping on two separate floors also raises concerns regarding supervision and emergency evacuation. The licensee must ensure that they submit notifications of change to any information that was provided in the application phase. This allows Licensing to review the proposed changes and assess for health, safety and compliance with legislation.
- C8.2 - Is each child provided a comprehensive and coordinated program of developmentally appropriate activities that encourages physical, intellectual, language, emotional, and social development?Non-critical
Observation. As a part of follow up to the information provided in the complaint, the licensee was interviewed. During interview, it was determined that some children are receiving approximately 1.5 hours of screen time daily, which exceeds the maximum amount allowable by the Director of Licensing Standard of Practice for Active Play. The licensee must ensure that no more than 30 mins of screen time is allowed per day.
- C4.1 - Are facility records current and complete?Non-critical
Observation. As part of follow up to the information provided in the complaint, the Licensee was interviewed. During the interview it was determined that children were involved in reportable incidents, defined as aggressive or unusual behaviour. The licensee did not notify parents of all children involved immediately. During the interview with the Licensee it was determined that children were involved in reportable incidents, defined as aggressive or unusual behaviour.
