    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Fridge temperature was 14 degrees celcius - A climber has been installed in the outdoor play space that is more than 5ft in height. This climber is not appropriate for the younger children in care. The plan proposed by the Manager is not sufficient to mitigate the risk. This is noted as a repeated contravention. - 2 geo domes are placed in the wood chips area of the outdoor play space, there is insufficient clearance around the equipment. This is noted as a repeated contravention.

    Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. LO observed and discussed the following with the Manager: - Climber in the outdoor play space is 5 ft in height which is not appropriate for the younger children. Additionally a geo-dome is available to the children in the same area, with no enough clearance around the equipment. - There is not sufficient loose materials, i.e. woodchips in the equipment area, exposing a large portion of landscape fabric; this is a tripping hazard. - Sandbox: the wooden plank is broken and needs replacement/ repairs. - 80 percent of the fences (about 7-8 fence panels/ posts) are rotten and weak which require replacement/repair.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Director of Licensing Standards of Practice- a new climber has been installed in the outdoor play space. The manufacturers instructions state it is for ages 3 to 12, however the equipment is more than 5 feet in height. In addition, the ladder in the back and the slide in the front need to be secured safely to the ground. There should also be a 6 feet clearance around the equipment, this is to ensure there is sufficient space for a fall zone.

    Corrective action. Ensure the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice for Safe Play Space is followed.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - The table was not wiped down before snack. The manager stated the table was sanitized prior to Licensing's arrival. Licensing arrived 45 minutes prior to snack time. - The manager had disposable gloves on during the entire inspection. This poses as a higher risk for the spread of germs especially during Covid. Licensing discussed gloves should be used when serving snacks and changing diapers. - Licensing observed the children go to the outdoor play area without any sunscreen or waterbottles. It was approximately 21degrees celsius with direct sunlight over the outdoor play area. - Electrical cords for the TV and portable speaker was accessible to the children - Hand sanitizer spray was used to disinfect high touch surfaces such as the table and highchair - Hand soap and paper towels in the bathroom were not easily accessible for the children. The manager said she helps tear the paper towel and give each child a little bit of soap. A discussion was had about making this easily accessible to the children to reduce the risk for the spreading of germs. - Lysol wipes were placed in an unsecured cupboard under the sink in the bathroom - Chloride wipes with a DIN number were in the First Aid kit. Licensing informed the manager during the initial inspection this product would require written parent permission if it were to be administered to the children. If it's not being used for the children it should be indicated.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

    Observation. Licensing observed an 11month old in care. The manager was carrying the child around during various times throughout the inspection. During outdoor play the child was strapped into a stroller and strolled around the outdoor play area. A discussion was had with the Manager about various ways to promote gross motor play while in the outdoor play area.

    Corrective action. Please ensure children are provided with opportunities for social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth.

    A licensee must (a) ensure that behavioural guidance is appropriate to the age and development of the child who is receiving the guidance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area: - Two younger children were fighting over a little tikes car. One child who is non verbal and has developmental delays was sitting on the car. The manager tried to explain to this child to come off and they need to share, the child would not listen. The other child waiting said "it's my car" which the manager responded in a loud voice "no it's mine". The manager picked up the child who was sitting on the car by his side and moved him, the child got really upset and began crying. The manager's voice started escalating and it appeared she was really frustrated that she picked up another little tikes car and threw it over the fence. - A sibling group were fighting over a chair. The manager said with a loud voice while pushing the older child by the should off the chair "you are older you need to understand". As the child was pushed back the manager said "go away".

    Corrective action. Please ensure that behavioural guidance is appropriate to the age and development of the child who is receiving guidance.
