- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Children’s bedding were stored together, increasing the risk of cross contamination. Staff personal belongings were observed on the floor and on a chair in the free play room within children’s reach. These items were corrected during the inspection by staff and the manager.
Corrective action. Manager said bedding will be stored separately and staff belongings will be stored in a closet with child proof lock.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. -Walls in the play area are showing signs of wear and tear at children’s height, with multiple large sections of chipped paint exposing drywall, making the surfaces difficult to sanitize. -One baseboard side cover was unsecured and lying on the floor. This was corrected during the inspection. - A wooden board under a cabinet has sharp edges, posing a potential risk of injury.
Corrective action. Manager said there is a plan to address the above items as soon as possible, and photos will be provided to Licensing.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE
A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Children’s hands were not washed before eating routine. Licensing pointed this out to the manager, and the children's hands were washed immediately. Licensing discussed the importance of washing children's hands before and after eating routines.
Corrective action. Manager said children hands will be washed with soap and water before and after eating routines.
15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - OR SUPERVISION
A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation. Medication required as per the child’s care plan was not available.
Corrective action. Manager said that child's parent will be contacted today to provide the medication.
14360 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. The fire extinguisher servicing was due in December 2025.
Corrective action. Manager said fire extinguisher will be serviced this week.
13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation. 4 staff files and the manager's file did not have verified character references.
Corrective action. The manager said that verified character references will be obtained and kept on file.
12050 - CCLR s.19(1)(b) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.
Observation. A record of one staff 's work history was not obtained.
Corrective action. The manager said that staff file will be updated with the resume.
12060 - CCLR s.19(1)(c) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for two staff and the manager.
Corrective action. Manager said all files will be updated with this information.
12090 - CCLR s.19(1)(f) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation. 1 staff person does not have a CRC completed through the Criminal Record Review Program in Victoria.There is a RCMP check available.
Corrective action. Manager said CRC application for this staff member will be submitted to Criminal Record Review Program.
