Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Four children's attendance were not recorded in Room 1 (30 mos-School Age program).

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. Two staff did not have character references available in their files. The Manager said that she checks every staff's references, however, these checks are not documented in the file.

  Corrective action. The Manager will document verified character references and keep this information in the staff's file.

  Corrective action. The Manager will obtain this information and keep in the staff's files.

  Observation. Staff member used inappropriate guidance strategies, such as physically guiding children with force, yelling at children and yelling at other staff in front of the children.

  Corrective action. Staff will use age appropriate guidance strategies with children in care.

  The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. A child's care plan in the School Age program was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.

  Corrective action. The Manager will review the care plan with the parent to ensure the information is still accurate.

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. During an audit of the preschool and 30 months to school age program, it was found that both sinks in each room had cleaners accessible to children in an unlocked cabinet.

  Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,

  Observation. During a review of 4 staff files, it was found that 4 were missing validation from the Registry.

  Corrective action. Please ensure ECE certificates are verified by a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry.
