• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing reviewed 3 staff files and 1 file was missing evidence of a certificate validation.

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon inspection, Licensing observed antigen tests accessible to children. The Manager moved these while Licensing was on site.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. During review of the facility it was found that there was only one record of fire drills being practiced in September of 2019. The manager described practicing fire drills every month but the drills were not recorded. The manager also further explained that the facility practices responding to an emergency on the same schedule as the elementary school practices "shake out BC" but did not have this recorded.

  Corrective action. Ensure to keep current records of monthly fire drills and annual emergency plan practices.
