• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. Bottles of Lysol are being stored in the shower stall in the children's bathroom are accessible to children.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure that children do not have access to these products.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. The areas around the base of the toilet and the shower stall in the children bathroom and facility fridge are in need of cleaning and foam is exposed in the change pad making it difficult to sanitize..

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure all areas of the facility are clean and that the diaper change pad does not have exposed foam.

• MEDICATION

  A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,

  Observation. Two children from different families are sharing a bottle of over the counter medication and there are no written insturciotns on when to administer the medication. Medication required by a child with food allergies was not available.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure that each child has their own medication and that there are written insturciotns on when it is to be administered and that all medication needed by children is at the facility.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. There were not enough supplies for all children for up to 72 hours in the emergency kit. Multiple food items in the kit had passed their expiry date.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure that there are enough supplies for all children for up to 72 hours and that all food items have current expiry dates.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. Care plans for four children had not been developed in consultation with the parent or any person requested by the parent.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure the care plans are available for all children with additional needs.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Three staff files were reviewed. An ECE certificate for one staff had not been validated.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure all ECE certificates are validated.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

  Observation. Immunization status was not available for one staff member.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure immunization status is available for all staff.
