• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following: -Cracked tiles on the washroom floor that were loose and sharp underfoot - this poses a risk to injury. - General wear and tear of walls needing re-paint or repair. - General cleanliness of the playspace (cat hairs, cobwebs, dust)

  Corrective action. Please ensure a clean and safe space at all times while children are in care.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Outdoor access area has a spiked tree branch overhanging the pathway accessible to the children. - Outdoor equipment needs cleaning to provide a clean, safe play space. - Some garden garbage is accumulated at one end of the outdoor play space

  Corrective action. Licensee said that annual spring maintenance will occur and will provide a plan to Licensing.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. The following was observed during the inspection: -In one power outlet, one plug cover was not present, leaving the plug exposed (This was fixed during the inspection with the application of a plug cover) -One area of exposed flaking drywall was present where children could have access, measuring approximately 5cm x 15cm. As a temporary solution, the Licensee moved a piece of equipment to block access to this area for children. The Licensee said this area of flooring and floor boards are waiting to have the flooring replaced. -In the upper floor, it was observed in all rooms there was present unidentifiable debris, possibly food and paper debris, multiple piles of clothing and other items about. There was a strong unpleasant odor in at least two rooms and presence of broken furniture. The environment observed has high potential for breeding grounds for bugs, and/or rodents and could present a health hazard to children in care. This area is not used by the children, but is part of the facility due to the care type, and must meet the minimum legislative standards.

  Corrective action. Ensure all areas of the facility meet the legislative standards for a healthy and safe environment at all times where children are present.
