- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Licensing observed general wear and tear within the facility: - Paint chipping on the walls - Faulty handle on the entrance door Discussed with staff.
Corrective action. Please provide a plan as to when theses areas will be renovated.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. Licensing observed that the emergency evacuation drill had not been practiced for the last year. Discussed the procedure and the requirement for an annual practice and to inform families, via facility policies, as to the policy and procedure in case of an emergency. Once practiced, please record compliance.
Corrective action. Provide a corrective action plan as to when this drill will be completed.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. Observation. On review of staff files, Licensing observed one was missing validation. Staff had recently renewed certification. This is a repeat contravention
Corrective action. Please ensure all staff files are current.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation. Observed areas within the outdoor play space which were not suitably enclosed, where children would have access to other hazards such as the main gate to the play area being unlatched on arrival. Discussed visual barriers and active supervision.
Corrective action. Please ensure all outdoor play areas anre suitably enclosed for the safety of the children. Procide a compliance plan to Licensing.
11160 - CCLR s.16(3)(a) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation. In the outdoor play area, wooden structures were observed to have progressive wear and tear and areas were rotting which leaves slivers accessible to children. Staff discussed a plan to remove certain items and replace ageing wooden boards.
Corrective action. Please provide a compliance plan to address this.
11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a bleach bottle located in the bathroom and plastic bags under the diaper change table. Both were accessible to children. The bags are a repeat contravention.
Corrective action. Corrected at inspection
11200 - CCLR s.17 - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation. Licensing observed the fire drill was not recorded for September to December of 2023 and the evacuation drill was not recorded for that year. The staff said that the drills have been completed.
Corrective action. Please ensure records are accurate and complete.

Observation. On review of two staff files, both were missing updated validations. Both staff had recently renewed certification. This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective action. Please ensure validation is obtained for every certified staff and when renewed.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed plastic bags accessible to the children, located under the bathroom sink. This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective action. Staff locked the cupboard during the inspection. Please ensure hazardous objects remain inaccessible to children at all times.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the diaper change mat had several splits in it, causing concern for cross contamination. This was corrected with a new diaper change pad at time of inspection.
Corrective action. Please ensure all equipment is in good repair at all times.

Observation. Licensing observed that the fire extinguishers in the facility had expired tags and require service.
Corrective action. Please ensure fire extinguishers are serviced annually. Please provide a compliance plan by the date below.

Observation. Licensing observed that all staff certificates were available for review although 2 validations were expired.
Corrective action. Please ensure that when staff renew their certification, a new validation is sought.
