• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following: - steps to the upper deck were accessible to children. Manager said that she could put a plastic gate at the foot to ensure safety. - Entrance/exit path has evacuation supply bin and another bin stored there. This inhibts the pathway when exiting in an emergency.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all areas are appropriate for accessibility.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. Care plan not developed in consultation with the parent or any person requested by the parent. There is documentation to guide staff but it is not individual to the child. Staff need to be aware of the signs and symptoms and action required by staff in order to appropriately respond to a child requiring emergency medication.

  Corrective action. Please ensure care plans are in place for any child requiring additional support.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. On review of staff files, Licensing observed that the previous validation was out of date due to a certificate renewal. Certificates must be validated after every renewal.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all documentation is current.
