    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed a large tree root in the GCC (30 mth to sa) outdoor space. This is a tripping hazard.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a safe play space at all times

    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (a) children attending a community care facility are divided into groups, with each group having no more children than that permitted in Schedule E. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed nine children in care in the Toddler program when it is only licensed for eight. Manager explained the one child was transitioning to the 3-5 program but was brought back over due to being upset.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that children remain in the groups they are registered in for the day.

    Observation. Licensing observed that two children were transitioning into other programs and were not signed out from their original program and signed in to their new program. This record needs to be accurate in case of emergency.

    Corrective action. Please ensure attendance records are accurate at all times.

  • MEDICATION

    A licensee must ensure that a child's medication is not accessible to any child, except that a child may have access to his or her own medication if (a) the child's parent has instructed the licensee to permit this. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Medication was accessible to children in care in two programs, being stored in backpacks in the cubby area.. Staff said that parents take home the medication on a daily basis.

    Corrective action. All medication should be inaccessible to children. This was corrected at inspection.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: Diaper change pad in Toddler program had a rip which can collect contaminents. A mop and bucket was stored in the diaper change area, accessible to the children.

    Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one or more employees out of the six staff files reviewed.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all staff files are complete prior to employment.

  • STAFFING

    A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.

    Observation. It was observed through discussion with the Manager and Licensee contact that the annual emergency drill is not practiced. Manager said that they weren't aware this was a requirement. This was further discussed with the Licensee contact and a recommendation to take all the supplies to the secondary location identified in the facility policies.

    Corrective action. Please provide a compliance plan as to when the emergency evacuation drill will be conducted and record the information once completed.

    Despite this section, during the half hour before a care program begins and the half hour after a care program ends, a licensee may permit children who would otherwise be grouped in different care programs, and who are arriving at or leaving the community care facility, to be grouped together and supervised other than as required under Schedule E if (a) the care program is described as Multi-Age Child Care, Group Child Care (Under 36 Months), Group Child Care (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age).

    Observation. Mixing of groups longer than 30 minutes (at the beginning and/or end of the day).Licensing observed that both the GCC(30-SA)program and the GCC(<36) program were mixing for over an hour in the mornings. Staff said this is a regular practice and this was further discussed with the owner.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the staffing schedule meets the requirements of legislation to ensure groups are separated accordingly.
