A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Upon inspection, licensing observed a shelf in a play room was unstable. This poses a potential hazard to children.

Corrective action. The Manager said she will ensure the shelf is secured.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Observation. Upon inspection, licensing observed Lysol wipes, a bottle of bleach, and plastic bags were stored under the washroom sink. A child safe lock was observed but not applied. The above mentioned items were accessible to children. This poses potential hazard.

Corrective action. The Manager said she will ensure the child safe lock is always applied.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one or more employees.

Corrective action. The Manager said she will obtain the immunization status from the staff.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

Observation. Upon review staffs' files, a staff's ECE certificate was not validated by using the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry.

Corrective action. The Manager said she will validate the staff's certificate.
