• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. During the inspection Licensing observed that there were staff bags at the children's level in the cubbies. This could present a potential hazard.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times to the children in care.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area: -rubber tiles were lifting. This may cause a potential tripping hazard. Licensing observed the following in the indoor play area: -wooden baseboards had peeling paint. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BCWNVN -a plastic baseboard was peeling away from the wall -furniture was well worn and the enamel was missing in some places. This may make furniture difficult to clean.

  Corrective action. Please ensure the facility is in good repair.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. Four staff records were reviewed. One staff was missing a character reference.

  Corrective action. Please ensure staff records are complete.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. During the inspection licensing observed that the kitchen door was left open. A large paper cutter was observed and the safety guard was not applied, and chemicals were located under the sink. This was corrected during the inspection.

  Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that are hazardous to their health and safety.

• MEDICATION

  If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

  Observation. Licensing observed that several children require medication in an emergency. On review of the care plans and emergency medication one child's emergency medication had expired.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that medication that is to be used in an emergency has not expired. Please ensure this change is updated in the care plan.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

  Observation. The attendance records were reviewed for the month of July. Three departure times were missing.

  Corrective action. Please ensure the attendance records are complete.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. Nine children's records were reviewed. One child's record was missing an emergency contact other than a parent.

  Observation. Four staff records were reviewed. One staff record had a current criminal record check however, the criminal record check was not site specific.

  Corrective action. Please ensure criminal record checks are site specific.
