- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Two bikes were in poor repair outside. Many small holes in walls were observed in both classrooms with the potential for a child to have their finger stuck.
Corrective action. Ensure that the equipment and facility are in good repair.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - LICENSING
A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.
Observation. One educator certificate was not posted, the other certificates were posted in an area where parents don't go.
Corrective action. Ensure that all educator certificates are posted in a prominent place in the facility.
10070 - CCLR s.11(4) - MEDICATION
If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation. One medication did not have the form completed, the name of the medication, or the amount to be given and was not in the prescription bottle.
Corrective action. Ensure that the medication is administered in the amount and times specified by the child's parent. Ensure that all details of what medication is given are included.
16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - MEDICATION
If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.

16020 - CCLR s.53(1)(b) - OR SUPERVISION
Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation. The Group child care (30 months- school age) program had 20 children with 2 staff exceeding the ratio requirement
Corrective action. Ensure that staff are scheduled as per Schedule E.
14030 - CCLR s.34(2)(b) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation. Two care plans was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.

Observation. One employee does not have a criminal record check addressed to the facility. The employee has a valid criminal record check addressed to another person.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. LO observed and discussed the following with the Manager re:outdoor play area -Peeling paint were accessible to the children and small gaps between the wooden fences posing finger pinching hazard. -Not sufficient wooden chips in one play area; landscape fabric is exposed posing tripping hazard.
Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation. Preschool: fire drill for Dec. 2022 was not recorded. The Manager said that it was practiced with the children, but not recorded.
Corrective action. Ensure that all fire drills/ emergency drill records are current and available on site.

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. Fire Extinguisher has not been serviced annually.

The Manager explained that some children are enrolled in both GCC and Preschool program but did not get signed into the corresponding program at arrival.

Observation. LO observed and discussed the following with the Manager: Two first aid kits were checked- both kits need to be replenished with extra supplies available to all staff, while children are in care.

11220 - CCLR s.23(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation. LO observed and discussed the following with the Manager: All 6 sinks were inspected today; 3 sinks in each classroom. 1 sink from the 3-5 room was not in use. All 5 sinks water temperature was measured at 55.2 degree Celsius.
Corrective action. Please ensure that any heated water accessible to children is no more than 49 degree Celsius.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. LO observed and discussed the following with the Manager today: - Outdoor Play Space: some maintenance required for the playground ground surfacing, i.e. wood chips. Please refer to DOLSOP, re: depth guidelines for loose fill material. - Cleaning supplies were stored under the washroom's sink; this cupboard was unlocked and accessible to children. The Manager relocated these items. ( CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION)
