Observation. Emergency Supplies were expired, therefore insufficient to implement the emergency plan

Corrective action. Ensure emergency supplies are sufficient.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

Observation. Licensing reviewed 6 children's files and one child's file was missing MSP number.

Corrective action. Ensure children's files are complete.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.

Observation. During routine inspection 8 children's files were reviewed and one child was missing a date of enrollment.

Corrective action. Ensure all children's files are complete.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. During routine inspection three staff files were reviewed. The following was observed in regards with the CRC: - one staff's CRC expired recently and it was not site specific - a sticky note was observed on the staff file that stated that the staff had applied for a new CRC. No evidence of application of new CRC was viewed at the time of the inspection

Corrective action. Ensure CRC is site specific and valid.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

Observation. During routine inspection licensing reviewed 3 staff files and observed the following: - one staff's ECE certificate was renewed and the new validation of the new ECE certificate was not present. An old validation of the ECE certificate (2023) was present in staff file but since then the staff has renewed their certificate.

Corrective action. Ensure ECE certificates are validated.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. During the routine inspection the outdoor space was reviewed and it was noted that three holes bigger than 3.5 inches and as large as 6 inches and 9 inches were present on the side of the fence. These holes pose a risk of potential entrapment. Staff on site mentioned that the children like to dig on the side of the fence and they have dug a trench. The staff said that the place where the children dig is filled out with dirt. At today's inspection the side of the fence was not filled with dirt or wood chips.

Corrective action. Please ensure you provide a healthy and safe environment at all times.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.

Observation. During the routine inspection the policies and procedures of the facilities were reviewed. It was noted that an Active Play and Screen Time Policy was missing. The staff on site said that the facility does not use screen time and the licensing officer observed children on the playground engaged in active play. However, a Screen Time and Active Play Policy must be present.

Corrective action. Please ensure an Active Play and Screen Time Policy is present in the facilities policies and in the parent's handbook.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

Observation. During the routine inspection two staff files were reviewed and the following was observed: - one staff had only one reference on file - second staff did not have any references in file. - there was no evidence found that the references were checked or reviewed

Corrective action. Please ensure all staff files are complete.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.

Observation. During the routine inspection two staff files were reviewed and one staff file was missing a resume.

Corrective action. Please ensure all staff files are complete.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. During the routine inspection two staff files were reviewed and one staff had a valid CRC but it was not site specific. The staff mentioned that they have been hired a few months ago.

Corrective action. Please ensure all staff had CRC site specific and files are completed.

A licensee providing a care program to any child younger than 36 months of age must provide a separate sleeping area located away from any activity area.

Observation. The nap space for children under 36 months had various items stored in the room preventing safe use of space when napping.

Corrective action. Please ensure to provide a separate sleeping area located away from any activity for children under 36 months.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. During the inspection licensing observed one high chair was visibly soiled. Staff said that the manager was planning to replace the high chair.

Corrective action. Please ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are in good repair.

If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

Observation. There were no written directions specified by the parent or care plan regarding the administration of medication.

Corrective action. Please ensure to develop a care plan for each child who requires one to ensure that the medication is administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

Observation. During inspection, of 3 staff files reviewed, 3 files did not contain record of early childhood educator certificate verification.

Corrective action. Please ensure licensee does not employ a person in a community care facility as an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2, which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood registry.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. Licensing observed chipped paint throughout the facility with exposed white underlay, at a level accessible to children. This is a repeat contravention.

Corrective action. Ensure that the facility is in good repair.

Observation. Licensing observed that the designated nap room was being used as a storage space. The licensee indicated that the nap room is a shared space between the facility and the church. Licensing suggested coming up with a plan to share the space in a way that does not impede the requirement of having a nap space available.

Corrective action. Ensure a designated nap area is available at all times.
