    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (a) suitable for the age and development of the children.

    Observation. A swing set structure had been installed which was intended for children over 3 years.

    Corrective action. The licensee said they will be removing the structure.

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. The fire extinguisher was past the annual service date.

    Corrective action. The licensee said they will have the fire extinguisher serviced in the coming days.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing reviewed the file of two staff who work in the program. One staff's file did not have record of their Early Childhood Education Assistant certificate validation.

    Corrective action. The licensee completed the validation during the inspection.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the appearance of urine on the toilet seat during the inspection. Licensee said this must have happened earlier today, as this cleaned last night.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Licensing observed hand soap was located out of reach of children. Children had not washed hands prior to sitting in the high chair to eat and drink.

    Corrective action. Licensee said moving forward they will ensure to follow the hand washing practices are completed prior to eating and drinking at the facility.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): -Toilet paper was not available to children in the bathroom -A fabric cover was used on the vinyl change pad which had visible soil. The licensee said the change pad cover was changed daily.
